My client already had disconnected downspouts when he contacted me to design rain gardens to manage his storm water.  Unfortunately, his downspouts were directed right into his yard and neighboring property so when it rained, it created puddles and spills dangerously close to his basement.  So we came up with a design to manage all the rain water hitting his roof and running off his gutters into his yard.  We planted native plants at different depths in the rain gardens depending on how much saturation the plants can take and we created stepping path through one of the two gardens with flagstones.  Now when it rains, his storm water is being filtered through the soil to re-charge the groundwater naturally instead of entering the storm water system.
